The Date Club

The Date Club is a collaborative project between Jessica Francis and Victoria Carran. A ‘date’ suggests a gifted period of time in which something is expected to happen. The Date Club is not so much a dating service, but a performance based practice that facilities romance and sentiment through the use of dating tropes. Disrupting these expectations removes exclusivity around concepts of romance, allowing it to be shared. Rather than the experience of romance being limited to couples we purpose it as a platonic group activity.

As a collective we wish to highlight ‘emotion’ as an investment of time. This is achieved by providing performance spaces for people to interact and foster relationships – producing sentimental ‘happenings’ that require participants to be present and emotionally reactive. These spaces require no monetary or commercial exchange but instead consider the idea of time as an exchangeable gift.
